Ecotourism is a stand for Ecological Tourism and its literal meaning in the Persian literature is wandering in nature and is a new trend in the tourism industry, based on targeted travel, along with cultural and spiritual visits to natural attractions and enjoyment of various phenomena.
Ecotourism following the philosophy of life and relying on internal values will allow increase sustainability through the protection of the natural realms, the transfer of local communities, the strengthening of the subculture’s characteristics, the provision of educational and learning opportunities, the strengthening of employment creation and the prevention of migration, the obligation to consume Fewer non-renewable resources, providing opportunities for local partnerships, environmental education and, in other words, the proper combination of development and the protection of the environment and cultural heritage.
By earning income through ecosystems, employment rates for local people increased and improved their level of health and education. According to the definition by Ecotourism International Society in 2015, ecotourism is “a responsive journey to natural attractions to enjoy, appreciate and understand nature (and to accompany the cultural features of the past and present) in such a way that protect ecosystem, contributes to the sustainability of life quality of the people, including education, in which the tourist participates the profitable social-economic activities of the local people.” In the context of ecotourism, education has been strongly emphasized, including Passengers and locals. Iran, having two high mountains of Alborz and Zagros, with beautiful natural landscapes in the west and north of the country, as well as diverse climatic and cultural , such as customs and traditions, language and music, clothing, crafts and the way people live in these areas, the existence of the world’s largest lake in the north of the country, the existence of 50 lakes inside the country as well as Urmia Lake as one of the 59 Earth’s biological reserves can be the main tourist destination in the world.
On the other hand, there are extensive forests in the northern regions of Iran, deserts of Iran, international wetlands, caves, waterfalls, mineral springs and villages with special attractions such as Kandovan and Masouleh all are of the unique ecotourism facilities in Iran and some of them are international ecotourism centers in the world.
